The original cottages appeared along the banks of Howe Sound around 1910. No one can verify an exact date as their origin has been lost to the mists of time but it's safe to say they're well over 100 years old. Speculation is that they were built by the Union Steamship Company as vacation rentals, as they did in other locations on the West Coast. 

Others will tell you they were fishermen's cottages, used when they were in the area chasing Chinook, Pink, Sockeye and Chum salmon. Extensively modernized by the current owner they now host updated kitchens, bathrooms, natural gas fireplaces and insulation. These unique, tiny homes offer a fantastic alternative to investing in a big box strata and enjoy a near constant waitlist of potential tenants. Horseshoe Bay offers many options for those looking to avoid cleaning pots and pans. Just stroll down the block and take your pick for a wide variety of dining options. The venerable Troll’s Restaurant, a village favorite and touchstone to village history, the award winning Olive & Anchor for upscale, relaxed dining by the seaside and The Troller, because every village needs a pub that serves an amazing burger. Pudgies Pizza offers amazing pizza by the slice or whole along with pasta options. There’s also Sushi, Chinese food, a bakery, ice cream shop, bakery and a lot more!

You might not realize it by visiting but there are a ton of services offered by the local business area. There’s a resident Doctor at Docs on the Bay, the Bay Pharmacy, a dental center, post office, Architect office, Sewell’s Marina with rentals, moorage and charters, and a barber shop & hair salon. There are also B&Bs, a motel, lots of shops and a local Real Estate Office

Horseshoe Bay Village is a true community with a blended demographic that keeps it thriving. Everyone from young people to seniors have a place and contribute to preserving the special place that they call home. There are lots of ways to participate whether it’s being a part of the Horseshoe Bay Business Association, joining the Western Residents Association, volunteering for one of the many community improvement efforts or just supporting local businesses and events like the Dinner on the Dock, Taste of the Bay or the Caroling Bonfire. This is a vibrant community where everyone is welcome.
